Job Prospectus

by Shawn Stratton on September 13th, 2008

So recently I’ve been listing and interviewing again; the company I’m with has put on a freeze on new hires, and since my contract expired I just don’t feel so safe.  There have been many calls lately, many of them instantly disqualified (“you want me to move where?”) or asking me to be a front end UI designer (I’m a programmer not a designer,) but I’ve gotten some interesting emails/phone calls that I’m definitely keeping up with.  Here are the top 3 potentials that I’ve been in touch with:

  • Yahoo! (in Atlanta)
  • iContact (in Raleigh)
  • MySQL (Telecommute)
Therein lies the problem, I love all three companies, I almost feel like I’m cheating on the others when I talk to any one of them.  Yahoo! has a great product that I’ve used for several years and I respect them greatly, same with MySQL, and then there’s iContact who has a great staff, great attitude, and is in an area I’m already comfortable and familiar with. There is one other problem here though; I live in Atlanta at the moment, I have a lease and my significant other has a job here; How do I resolve that?  I would love to move back to Raleigh, the area is relaxed, my son would be safer than here in Atlanta, and the cost of living is greatly decreased, but I would also take my “family” far away from the rest of our family.
