Google Chrome
Like many I'm anxiously awaiting the ability to download the new browser Google Chrome but I wanted to drop a quick line in regards to why I'm so anxious. Google has slowly taken over the intrawebs in the last few years, starting as a university project, Google has become a giant. With the release of Chrome they are poising themselves to become an actual user platform, not only offering services but becoming the service; since the announcement of Android, I've been thinking of this. Google is quickly becoming the number 1 contender to release a stripped down, minimalistic, and well supported Operating System. I know there have been rumors of this for a while but think about it, they're already building the components of an enterprise grade OS with Google Apps, Chrome, and then throw in a little Android and you have the potential for a full fledged platform. I can see a small business running a free Google OS (I would gauge it would be Linux or BSD based considering the standpoint on Open Source as of late by Google,) using Gmail (can be customized to a domain via google apps) as their email base, and using Google Docs/Calendar/etc for day to day operations.
Microsoft has talked about this for years, moving Office and other programs like it to be based online, well Google looks like they're actually doing it. Kudo's to google, I don't care that you'll be indexing everything I write, selling my information to advertisers, and generally be directing the internet soon, I'm on the bandwagon. Now if only you guys develop a lightweight OS that's as flashy as Mac OS X, I'll be in love.
Edit: I'm now on chrome beta like I'm sure many of you out there are, only complaint so far: Webkit is acid3 compliant, Chrome isn't. It's extremely fast in comparison to most other browsers, will be fun to see what this browser windws up as.
